Dying to be Beautiful? Body Image, Eating Behaviours and Health in the Caribbean
A culture of body dissatisfaction seems to be on a rampant increase in Jamaica and the Caribbean. Consequently, healthcare professionals and scholars are very concerned about the growing trends in eating disorders, disordered eating patterns, obesity and skin bleaching as these practices may result in an increase in mortality and morbidity. While its initial focus was on body dissatisfaction, the conference has now grown to encompass other health issues that are negatively impacting Caribbean nationals such as sleep deprivation and substance abuse.
This conference also facilitates a call of assistance from the international community to improve their cultural competence when treating Caribbean immigrants.
Come join us in Kingston, Jamaica for the 4th Conference on Dec 6-8, 2024.
